Jan A. Bradley Memorial Scholarship

Jan A. Bradley (MAY 28, 1951 – NOVEMBER 4, 2021)

Jan was a dynamic and accomplished community volunteer. The list of charitable organizations and events that she participated in, often in key or leadership roles, is almost impossible to fathom. Jan was a member of the Lubbock Women’s Club, PEO, Junior League of Lubbock, Cattle Barron’s Ball for the American Cancer Society and Alpha Phi sorority. She also chaired the Heart Ball for the American Heart Association. Jan was a proud member of the Lubbock Symphony Guild for over 40 years serving as President from 2004-2005. She was also involved with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and served on the Board of Directors for five years. She was later appointed to the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras (TASO) where she helped Co-Chair the state conference in Lubbock, holding numerous positions, and ultimately becoming President from 2010-2011. Because of Jan’s passion for music, her family has created a scholarship in her name through the Youth Orchestras of Lubbock.

When it comes down to it, Jan is hard to define. Not because of the lack of words, but because there are too many to describe her and yet not enough. A wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, artist, creator, hostess, philanthropist, leader…and the list goes on. Jan was always someone who left a lasting impression and will continue to live on in our hearts.

Felipe madrid memorial scholarship

Felipe Marcelo Madrid (June 10, 2004 - October 26, 2022)

On October 26th, 2022, the LYO family tragically lost two of its members: Angelica Vasquez and Felipe Madrid. Angelica was a Prelude Orchestra Manager and Felipe was a senior trumpet player for the Symphony Orchestra.

Angelica was incredibly kind and a joy to work with. Felipe was sweet, funny, and remarkably talented. On October 25th, 2022, Felipe sent an email to LYO expressing an interest in joining Lubbock Symphony. We know he would have been successful in achieving that goal.

We are truly grateful to have had Felipe and Angelica as a part of our LYO family. The scholarship in Felipe's name honors his legacy by supporting students who embody the same dedication to musicianship that he had.
